Support for JDK 8
The scheduled release date for JDK 8 is 2014-03-18*. JDK 8 brings significant changes to Java including lambda support, and a vastly improved Date and Time library. Support for JDK 8 would be swell. https://blogs.oracle.com/java/entry/java_se_8_schedule
You can set the JDK7 env var to point to java8 directory, and restart. Works! But please make the offficial changes, support - openshift its a no brainer and should you 30 minutes.
Is it possible to enable java8 for tomcat7 cartridge? or add tomcat8 with java8?

It sure would be nice to have Tomcat run on Java 8 OOTB

Java 7 will become obsolete after April 2015, and will no longer receive publically available updates.
Can I build my webapp in Jenkins with Java 8?

Check out the WildFly Application Server cartridge:
Since JDK 8 is available now for wildfly cartridge for a while, we expect the same in the DYI.
